DISTRESS COMMUNICATIONS

 

1. Sending Undesignated Distress Alert using DSC.

 

By the press of a button/(s) for 5 - 6 seconds minimum information is transmitted i.e.

 

 i) Vessel's ID

ii) Position &

iii) Time of position update.

 

Note : Position to be checked before sending the alert.

2. Sending designated Distress Alert using DSC.

 

i  )  Press Distress button once.

ii )  Select nature of distress from the distress menu.

 

      a) Fire, Explosion.

      b) Flooding.

      c) Collision.

      d) Grounding

      e) Listing & in danger of capsizing

      f) Sinking

      g) Disabled & Adrift

      h) Abandoning Ship

      i ) Man Over Board

      j ) Undesignated

 

Note : Piracy & Armed Rovvery are also considered as Distress Situations.

 

iii)  Select appropriate frequency.

iv)  Press the button/(s) for 5 - 6 seconds.

 

Note : Position to be checked before sending the alert.

Double Button Method Inmarsat -  C Single Button Method Inmarsat - C (640x401)

3. Sending Undesignated Distress Alert using Inmarsat - C.

 

By the press of a button/(s) for 5 seconds minimum information is transmitted i.e.

 

 i) Vessel's ID

ii) Position &

iii) Time of position update.

 

Note : Position to be checked before sending the alert.

4. Sending Designated Distress Alert using Inmarsat - C.

 

 i) Select "Distress" Menu.

ii) Select appropriate LES.

iii) Update Position, Course & Speed.

iv) Enter time for updated position in UTC.

v ) Select nature of Distress.

 

      a) Fire, Explosion.

      b) Flooding.

      c) Collision.

      d) Grounding

      e) Listing & in danger of capsizing

      f) Sinking

      g) Disabled & Adrift

      h) Abandoning Ship

      i ) Man Over Board

      j ) Undesignated

 

Note : Piracy & Armed Rovvery are also considered as Distress Situations.

 

vi) Press button/(s) on transceiver to send.

5. Making Distress Call using Inmarsat - B.

 

 i) Lift Handset.

ii) Press Distress Button for 6 seconds.

iii) Initiate call using " # ".

iv) When MRCC replies, speak the message.

6. Sending Distress Message using Inmarsat - B (Telex).

 

 i) Prepare message in file menu.

ii) Select "File" and Click "Save As".

iii) Press "Alt + F3" to close the current window.

iv) Select "Distress" from the menu tab and select "Transmit Distress".

v) Select "Confirm".

vi) After the message has been transmitted from DMG (Automatic), Select "OK".

vii) Open File Menu.

viii) Select "Open", Choose the file which you have saved.

ix) Again click the file tab and select "Send File".

7. Making Distress Call using Fleet - 77.

 

 i) Press the distress button for 6 seconds.

ii) When the buzzer sounds, pick up telephone handset.

iii) Press " # " to confirm.

iv) After RCC replies speak out the Distress Message.
