SETTING UP EQUIPMENTS

 

1. Programme the NAVTEX receiver with appropriate station(s) for the planned voyage.

 

 i)  Enter "Main Menu".

ii)  Select "NAVTEX".

iii) Select " User Select Staion & Msg"

iv) Under 518 KHz frequency, Select Station and press "Enter".

v)  Select Appropriate Stations from ALRS Vol. 5 and press "Enter".

vi) Select Message and press "Enter".

vii)Select Message type as required and press "Enter".

 

For setting up NAVTEX for 490 KHz, Stations and Message type should be selected under 490 KHz frequency.

 

Note - 1) 518 KHz frequency is for International (English Language)

          2) 490 KHz frequency is for Regional Language

          3) A, B, D, L category of messages can not be rejected by the receiver

          4) Refer to ALRS Vol-5 to find the appropriate staions.

2. Logging in to INMARSAT - C to appropriate satellite

 

 i)  Press "Alt + P"

ii)  Check that Position, Course and Speed are correct.

iii) Select " OK "

iv) Press "Alt + O".

v)  Select "Login".

vi) Select appropriate satellite from ALRS Vol-5 and press "Enter".

 

Note - Refer to ALRS Vol-5 to find the appropriate satellite.

3. Programming INMARSAT - C EGC receiver for reception of MSI for next nav area on the voyage.

 

 i)    Press "Alt + O".

ii)    Select "Configuration".

iii)   Select " EGC "

iv)   Go to Additional Nav Area and press "Enter"

v)    Enter the Nav Area and then press "Enter".

vi)   Go to Coastal Warning Areas and press "Enter".

vii)  Enter the Coastal Warning Area and press "Enter".

viii) Select the type of messages to be received.

ix)   Select "OK"

 

Note - 1) A, B, D, L category of messages can not be rejected by the receiver

          2) Refer to ALRS Vol-5 to find the appropriate satellite.

4. Viewing stored EGC messages on INMARSAT - C

 

 i)  Press "Alt + L" to enter Logs of INMARSAT - C.

 

 

7. Programming INMARSAT - B for Routine (Telephone)

 

 i)    Press "Ocean Region Menu" at top right corner in the telephone.

ii)    Enter "Change".

iii)   Enter "Ocean Region"

iv)   Enter Appropriate Satellite Region.

v)    Press "Esc".

vi)   Wait for the system to initialize.

vii)  Again Press the "Ocean Region Menu" at top right corner in the telephone.

viii) Select "CES".

ix)   Select Appropriate CES and press "Esc".

 

Note - Refer to ALRS Vol-5 to find the appropriate satellite.

5. Programming INMARSAT - B for Distress (Telephone & Telex)

 

 i)    Press "# + 8".

ii)    Enter "Setup" Menu.

iii)   Enter "CES"

iv)   Enter "Default".

v)    Enter "Distress".

vi)   Enter appropriate "Ocean Region".

vii)  Select "CES".

viii) Select Appropriate CES and press "Esc".

 

Note - 1) Refer to ALRS Vol-5 to find the appropriate satellite.

           2) The default station selected for Distress is both for Telephone and Telex.

6. Programming INMARSAT - B for Routine (Telex)

 

 i)    Press "Alt + S".

ii)    Go to "Navigation".

iii)   Check that your region, position, speed and course are updated.

iv)   Select "OK".

v)    Again press "Alt + S".

vi)   Go to "Staions".

vii)  Select appropriate "CES" and press "Enter".

viii) Select "OK".

 

Note - Refer to ALRS Vol-5 to find the appropriate satellite.

8. Programming Fleet - 77

 

 i)    Press " Menu".

ii)    Enter "Ocean Region".

iii)   Press "OK".

iv)   Then press "Exit".

v)    Wait for initialization.

vi)   Again press "Menu".

vii)  Select "LES".

viii) Select appropriate LES and press "Esc".
